A zine of things to do, made by people who live here
Neighborlore started in early 2024 when a photographer and a market-stall regular decided Bangkok's most interesting afternoons were impossible to find online. Not tours. Not packages. Just good, specific things — a half-day with a camera, a 7am walk through Or Tor Kor, a workshop in a proper kitchen. Real neighbourhood stuff, hosted by people who know the place personally.
We keep the list short on purpose. Every entry on the platform has been attended by someone on our team. Hosts set their own pace and group sizes stay small — usually six people, sometimes fewer. The idea is that you should leave with something you actually made, learned, or photographed, not just a ticked checkbox.

Groups stay small so you can ask questions, change pace, and get individual attention. Eight people is already quite a lot for a kitchen.

Photography
Golden hour walks in the old district
The session starts around 4:30pm on Yaowarat Road and moves through the lanes off Charoen Krung as the light softens. The host — a Bangkok-based documentary photographer — covers composition framing, reading available light, and making one strong image rather than fifty adequate ones.
Afterwards, the group sits down for a mobile-editing session. The cheat sheet covers three adjustments that cover most situations. No apps to purchase.

Culinary
Market first, kitchen second
The walk starts at 8am at Pak Khlong Talat, where the host picks up the morning's haul — whatever looks good rather than a fixed list. Guests join the decision-making and learn to read produce quality without a guidebook to help.
The kitchen session runs for about two hours. The menu is seasonal and shifts from week to week; the June sessions have been running around pandan and ripe mango. Everything included — ingredients, tools, a printed recipe card, and the shared meal.

How we think about this

A half-day is enough to learn something useful. We don't stretch sessions to justify higher prices. The photography walk is four hours. The cooking workshop is a morning. Long enough to get somewhere, short enough to leave well.

All current listings take place in or around Samphanthawong and the adjoining districts. Not because the rest of Bangkok isn't interesting — it is — but because we want to know the ground well before expanding the map.

Show up and do it
The host meets the group at the listed meeting point. Everything else is handled from there. Most sessions run around four hours.
