Our commitment

Neighborlore aims to make this website usable by as many people as possible — regardless of ability, device, or assistive technology. That's not a policy position; it's just how we think a site should work. We're a small team and we take problems seriously when they're reported.

Our target is conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the widely accepted baseline for accessible web content.

What we've done

The site is built with accessibility in mind from the start, not added afterwards. The measures we've taken include:

• Semantic HTML throughout — proper heading order, landmark regions (<header>, <main>, <footer>, <nav>), and native elements (<details>, <dialog>) used where appropriate.
• All interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard alone, with visible focus styles on links and buttons.
• Text contrast ratios meet the 4.5:1 minimum required at AA level. We've checked core text, link text, and button labels.
• All images carry descriptive alt text relevant to the content shown, not generic captions.
• Form fields are labelled explicitly using <label> elements and required fields are clearly marked.
• The site respects the prefers-reduced-motion media query. If you've enabled this preference in your operating system, transitions and reveals are reduced or removed.
• The cookie preference panel and FAQ accordion are keyboard-accessible and labelled for screen readers.
• The site scales appropriately across viewport sizes and can be zoomed to 200% without loss of content.

Known limitations

A few areas where we know there's room for improvement:

• Third-party content — such as the embedded Google Maps iframe — is outside our direct control and may not fully meet AA standards.
• Content images sourced from Lorem Picsum during development will be replaced with properly described real images before launch; alt text may be less precise on the interim build.
• The cookie consent dialog uses role="dialog" and focus management, but behaviour may vary across older screen reader and browser combinations.
